The 2026-2027 high school season will bring about significant changes for Cartersville. Next year, the bathroom policy will be revamped. Currently, the policy requires students to use paper passes or lanyards when using the bathroom. However, next year, these passes will be digital instead. This is supposed to maximize classroom time by eliminating the possibility of too many students using the bathroom at once or students skipping class. While the system is still under construction, the following is a general outline of how it will work: to use the restroom, students will need to sign in to a ‘kiosk’ (computer) using their student ID. This will track how long people use the bathroom, as well as the number of people using it per hall. If a student takes too long when using the restroom, they will get ‘flagged’, notifying the teacher. Additionally, if there are too many students using the bathroom in one hall, the user will have to wait for one to come out before they can use it themselves.
Additionally, the system will include separate tabs corresponding to the student’s destination. For example, if a student wants to go to the nurse, they would go to a different page and sign in there. This feature also helps with another aspect, which would require students to obtain approval from the teacher or nurse before attending a class or visiting the nurse. This means that students can’t disrupt a class, as the teacher will have complete control over who attends and who does not. The same goes for the nurse. As said previously, this system is still being implemented, and bugs are still being fixed, so it’s prone to change. It isn’t completely new, however, as the middle school has been using it all year already. This policy change could be beneficial for the high school and is likely to take full effect next year.
