Cartersville High School is well-known for so many sports, such as football, baseball, volleyball, etc. An outstanding sport this winter season was basketball, mainly the Lady Canes basketball team! The girls’ basketball team was composed of a majority of sophomores and one senior, and the team was quite strong, taking home 25 wins out of 30 this season. They also played in the Elite Four against Marist but unfortunately lost. They have high hopes to achieve their goals next year and make it all the way to State. An interview with Coach Pugh gave us insight into what the objectives of the team are and how they contribute to the Cartersville School System. This year’s goals were to limit turnovers, develop a bench, and reach the regional championship. Coach Pugh then put in the effort to mold the team, which later succeeded in achieving two of these goals. The Coach’s motivation was his will to see change in the Cartersville basketball team and to be the one to make it, which has been very evident. He promoted hard work and diligence, love and support, discipline and growth, consistency and competitiveness, which are also part of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts Program in the Cartersville City School System. This season was very intense, and the biggest setbacks were only injuries, a natural phenomenon. The team certainly has more in store. Next season’s goals will include more players from different grades and varying levels of emotional maturity, which we all look forward to seeing play out. As always, we stay strong and build legacies one student at a time, and this is only one segment of the entire school system’s impact on today’s generation.
