The Cartersville baseball team started region play on Monday, March 18, and beat LaGrange 11-0 in only six innings. Cohen Wilbanks started on the mound for the Canes, throwing six strikeouts and allowing eight hits but zero runs in five innings. Cartersville didn’t get a run until the fourth inning. With bases loaded and two outs, Ian Inaba hit a single that scored Preston Welchel. JP Martin was then hit by a pitch to push in Jordan Wilkie, then Kolby Adams singled to bring Brant Smith home. Inaba attempted to score on the single by Adams, but was thrown out at the plate.

Josh Davis started off on fire in the fifth inning with a leadoff double. Preston Welchel doubled to send Davis home and Brant Smith hit a sacrifice fly-ball to bring home Welchel.

The Cartersville bats really started to heat up in the sixth inning, as the Canes scored six runs. With two runners on and two outs, Cohen Wilbanks doubled to score both runners. Jordan Wilkie then singled to bring Wilbanks home. Afterwards, an errant throw by the LaGrange catcher to second base brought Preston Welchel home. Ian Inaba put the icing on the cake with a double that scored two more runners. LaGrange brought in a new pitcher and he quickly got the third out. Hayden Davidson headed to the mound for the sixth inning and allowed no runs to win the game.

Cartersville moved to 12-3 on the season and will face LaGrange again at home on Wednesday at 5:55.
