Presly Edwards, Writer

Thursday, September 13th, the Lady Canes softball team took on Sandy Creek’s Lady Patriots once again. Since this was the second time the Canes took on the Patriots, they knew what to expect, leading them to put runs up on the board early.

Colbi Ballard started the team off strong with an RBI single, scoring Cio Siegler. Although the Canes were scoring earned runs successfully, the Patriots helped by making five errors in the second inning, allowing the Lady Canes to lead by six runs. Hope Short, Anna Kate McElhaney, and Ballard contributed RBI’s in the second inning.

At the top of the third inning Presly Edwards started the Canes up again by hitting a double. Siegler allowed Edwards to score by hitting a sacrifice fly to deep center field, and by the end of the fourth inning, thanks to Brooklyn Pittman and Emery Jenkins’ RBI singles, the score was 9-0. Short reached first on a base hit in the fifth inning, followed by yet another error and RBI by Ballard. Lauren McElhaney then scored the final run with a sacrifice fly.

Following the Lady Canes outstanding offense, Ballard also threw a shutout, her first this season. The Lady Canes showed up to play and walked away winning 13-0.
