“Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone.”
– Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl
Genocide is a process. It doesn’t start with mass killings and violence. It begins with words. It begins with hate. It begins with the dehumanization of a neighbor. Destroying trust and security within communities. Destroying the people with abhorrence before dealing the final blow. The tears and blood of those being plagued stain the streets of a country once called “free”. A country that prides itself on being “home of the brave” cowers behind a gun when faced with the human rights of people who do not look like them. That doesn’t speak like them. They take pride in who they are. “Aliens,” they call them. Fathers, mothers, daughters, and sons are all “Aliens” in the eye of the iron fist.
Over the past year, 675,000 people have been deported, with 87% of those arrested having never committed aggravated felonies. 675 thousand people were taken from their homes. Stolen from the opportunity that was presented to people like them. The opportunity for life and labor and the chance to truly dream were stripped away because of the absence of a piece of paper. Immigrants who come to this land for the possibility of success and prosperity are being killed for keeping hope close to their hearts. Thirty-six recorded deaths within ICE detentions in 2025. 95% of those deaths were preventable. Masked enforcers rain down bullets like hellfire when challenged by adversaries. Eight people have been killed thus far in 2026. Eight human beings with families are being put down like dogs for understanding that no one is illegal on stolen land. Luis Gustavo Núñez Cáceres, Geraldo Lunas Campos, Víctor Manuel Díaz, Parady La, Renee Nicole Good, Luis Beltrán Yáñez–Cruz, Heber Sánchez Domínguez, and Alex Pretti.
There are people in this county who couldn’t care less about what happens to these human beings. These people lack the compassion and understanding that make America what it is supposed to be today. A place where anyone can come and make their dreams a reality. A place of opportunity and prosperity. Be the change and take a stand to help make the United States of America united once more.
Si, se puede
