Once Upon a Time

Once+Upon+a+Time

Gabby Coleman, Guest Writer

Once upon a time I wanted to be a teacher,
With apples and coffee and children to guide.
But as I grew older, I realized the tasks people beseecher,
Letting me witness as my dreams died.

When the job is to guide,
Why is it that the role of protecter is inherent?
I do not want to force these children to hide
Because of some law that encourages people to be delirant.

I want to teach the alphabet,
Not a drill in the face of danger.
I want them to grow into their own assets,
Not to be a soldier maimed by someone else’s anger.

Once upon a time I wanted to be a teacher,
With apples and coffee and children to guide.
But now I crave to be a defeature
Of the amendments by which our children have died.
