It’s 1985 and bands like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Motley Crue rule the rock music scene. Hair spray, and flashy outfits are all over television screens across America. Then comes 1989, in the city of Seattle; a new sound of rock music. One that is darker, and “grungier.” The band Nirvana releases their first album. It was an almost immediate hit, and it was the polar opposite of the current state of music.
30 years later, a similar movement is happening in the world of country music. Artists like Florida Georgia Line, and Luke Bryan have begun to disappear. Musicians like Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, and Zach Bryan have taken the role of that Nirvana moment. People are getting tired of the “stadium” country that controlled the genre for the past decade, and are ready for real, meaningful, storytelling country.
