Expressionism to start the year.
As I walked into the classroom, I could feel creativity flowing through the air. The art students were showing their creativity through their horror painting. Each student was making a scream painting, but with their own characters. Some with less originality than others, using Pinterest for inspiration; others used their own ideas.
They managed to use their limited supplies to create a masterpiece. They used pieces of carboard and made use of primary colors. They mixed them together to make different shades and colors—making their paintings full of life. Each of their pieces represented them, you could match every student to their painting.
The theme of their paintings was expressionism; they were distorted and disjointed. Instead of using thick brush strokes like most people would when creating these types of pieces, they used small brushes. It kept them from limiting themselves.
One student expressed how even with what he was given, he made the best painting he could with his abilities. Another expressed that sometimes art isn’t about the amount of supplies but the imagination and creativity that you want to share through your work. From an outside view, you see students painting, but to them, they’re telling a story through expressionism.
