Art is a physical piece of description; people have been using art as a form of expression since the beginning of civilization. This week I decided to get a closer look and see what art means to my classmates at Cartersville High School.
“Screaming Tomato’s” – Beth Draute
Screaming Tomato’s visibly shows an up-close point of view of a tomato plant with green vines, the focus point is four large, bright tomatoes in the middle of the canvas with a yellow background. Beth said she got her inspiration after taking care of the plants she has around her house. Screaming Tomato’s is a part of an assortment of paintings Beth is developing as a collection to represent the human connection with nature, and how nature expresses itself. “Since the beginning of senior year, I’ve been forming painting ideas, and now I’m bringing my ideas to life, second semester. I believe A connection with nature is important to maintain a clam state-of-mind and balance.” Screaming Tomato’s is only one of Beths creations, with more to come.
“Crumbl’ cookie” – Ruth Chavec
Crumbl’ cookie displays a 8 inch wide 1 ½ ich tall cookie; influenced by the popular cookie brand called Crumbl’, Ruth got her idea from the Lucky Charm Crumbl’ cookie flavor; a vanilla cookie with cream cheese marshmallow frosting, and Lucky Charm marshmallows sprinkled on top. “The Lucky Charm cookie is my favorite cookie that Crumbl’ sells. The cookie itself reminds me of all the good times I’ve had going to get Crumbl’ cookies with my friends and enjoying them together. My project represents the activities that my friends and I share, along with my love for Crumbl’.”
“Mini Mouse” – Osvaldo Castill
Mini Mouse is a clay structure replica of the popular children Disney character Mini Mouse;
a petite girl mouse who is the long-time sweetheart to famous children’s character Mickey Mouse. Osvaldo got his idea for Mini Mouse from his little cousin. “My little cousin is obsessed with Mini Mouse right now, so I thought she would love if I made her something of the sort.” Osvaldo says “Putting together the art piece isn’t difficult, actually it’s pretty fun. I feel super nostalgic when I look at it, and I’m proud of how it’s coming together.”
“Strawberry” – Fatima Anjum
Strawberry; a 9-inch tall, 12-inch wide Choclate covered, ceramic strawberry. Fatimas’ motivation for this massive clay piece is a memory of her and her friend’s making chocolate covered strawberry’s late at night in the kitchen. “I love chocolate, and I love Strawberrys, they’re even better together. That’s the kind of relationship my friends and I have; we bring the best out of each other. I’m so excited to finish this project, so this Strawberry can be a representation of me and my friend group.”
“Eyes realize, my eyes” – Tony Deleon
Eyes realize, my eyes, is a 4ft by 2 feet wood canvas, with handmade clay eye mask’s. The sculpture portrays 11 clay masks aligned on the boarders of the wood canvas; all with unique designs. Each mask has a pair of eyes, avoiding eye contact with other masks around. Behind each clay mask is a burst of color related to the design of the masks. It’s one of the bigger projects in Murray’s art room. Tony’s input; “I think I’ve been working on this for almost three months. It takes so long because I have to individually sculpt and each the masks, glaze them, and connect them to the canvas. I’m very excited to finish because big projects pay off the most. My art in some way represents me, and the emotions I feel. It’s something I can relate to and have a physical copy of.”
“Piece number six” – Eden Olson
Piece number six, is a black and white painting of Eden holding her boyfriend as he kisses her on her cheek. Piece number six is one out of Eden’s assembly of paintings she is tributing to her time over the summer, and when she met her boyfriend. “I got the idea for my art designs in the beginning of the school year because all I could think about were memories from the summer and all the great times I had with my boyfriend, so I wanted to capture those memories, and hold on to them.” Eden also said this painting is very personal to her because the art represents young love and innocence of having your first real relationship.
“Cinnamon roll” – Ellie Capes
Cinnamon roll is a 6-inch wide, 2-inch tall, ceramic cinnamon roll. Ellie says her Cinnamon roll sculpture represents the short, sweet morning desserts that she loves. “I’ve always loved cinnamon rolls, my favorite breakfast food. They are special to me because their a treat in my house that my whole family can agree on in the morning.” Ellie has been working on this project for about a week and is very excited to bring it home and display it in her house.
“Light and time” – Milena Bihm
Light and time is a painting that illustrates a young girl with wild hair floating in space, in the right corner the moon is staring at the girl, and in the left corner is a star who is staring at the moon. Milena says she got her inspiration from Salvador Dali; a famous surrealist artist from the 1930s, more specifically his 1931 famous painting “Persistence in memory”. “I found Dali’s art form really mesmerizing, and impressive so, I thought maybe I would put my own narrative to it. My painting is important to me because it reminds me that the stars and the moon are more than just floating orbs, they are responsible for time on earth, which represents having much more power than what’s visible on the outside.” Milena claims this is one of her easier pieces and one of her simple favorites.
