Q1: What is the Navigation center? The Navigation Center is the gray stucco building you pass driving out of the back of the high school campus; next to the School Board office. It is home to central registration for the school system, the administrator over CTAE programs, community engagement, and the Cartersville Schools Foundation, Inc.
Q2: What role do you play at the navigation center? I serve as the Executive Director of the Cartersville Schools Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was created in 1995 and is overseen by a Board of Directors, made up of community members, that meets quarterly to receive updates and provide guidance on Foundation activities.
Q3: What activities and or programs do you have a role in? The Cartersville Schools Foundation supports the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year programs, manages the GateKey and REACH Scholarship programs as well as several individual scholarships, and serves as fiscal agent for Mentor Canes, Least of These and BackPack Buddies.
Q4: How are you active in these programs and or activities? As the Director of the Foundation, I am responsible for managing the funds for all programs, overseeing the selection processes for our scholarship programs, and working with students in preparing them for whatever they choose to do after high school and assisting in the transition from high school to college.
Q5: What is special about what you do? The programs offered through the Foundation are a part of what makes our school system so special by meeting the needs of our students beyond the classroom.
Q6: What do you enjoy most about what you do? The best part of my job, just as others who work in the school would tell you, is building relationships with the students. It is very rewarding to watch students who might not have been sure college was going to be an option or didn’t know how to navigate the transition from high school to college, or even have an idea of what they might be interested in as a career, become more confident as they navigate their college journey and begin a successful career they enjoy. I love seeing students figure out who they are and what they are passionate about, and realize they are capable of much more than they thought possible.
Q7: What is one thing people should know about the programs and or activities you are in? The mission of the Foundation is to support the students and staff of the Cartersville City School System. We want to enhance educational opportunities, so every student is successful and prepared for life after high school.
