The cold nylon strings slid across his hard, calloused fingertips. The sound waves rang in his ears for seconds at a time. Alex could pick his guitar with Jeffery for hours without hesitation. From one melody to another, the different songs flowed together so eloquently. A knock on the door indicated that it was time for dinner. After a few conversations and burgers, the boys were back to making music. Sometimes, a wrong note would be played, and their ears were anything but pleased. But they would keep playing until it sounded better. Those cringed faces soon turned to laughs and smiles. They looked at the clock and saw it was 12:00, and their parents were still conversing in the living room. It was proposed that they record the songs they had been playing.
The laptop was brought out of the dusty cabinet and plugged into the amplifier. A beat was thrown into the electronic studio and Jeffery was just told to play. He improvised for a few minutes until he felt like not playing anymore. They played the song back and had big grins on their faces. The clock hit 12:30 and those bright looks on their faces soon turned to heavy eyes. A somewhat sorrowful goodbye lead to a tired car ride home and thoughts racing while each of the boys’ heads hit their pillow. Thoughts of music and beats pounded their skulls until their minds shut down for the night.
