On October 20th, 2023, the Cartersville High School Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program went to Maple Ridge Nursing Home to conduct their clinicals. A clinical is an on-site training day spent with real nurses and patients. Students began their day before 7 in the morning, when they arrived at the facility. They first were told to do “showers.” This involved undressing and dressing elderly patients who were unable to do it themselves. After the patients were undressed the CNA students helped shampoo their hair and condition it. After that the students washed the patients’ bodies with a washcloth. Following this, the CNA class dried the elderly patients’ bodies as well as lotioned them. For bed-bound patients, the CNA students could only bathe and rinse them with washcloths. Following ’showers’, students then participated in serving and feeding patients breakfast and lunch. Their next set of clinicals is set for November 3rd 2023.
