The first Mother-Son Dinner for CHS families was held on March 3rd, 2025. When my mom and I arrived, we got our picture taken before going in and getting something to eat. The main speaker, Steve Dennis, spoke at length about the bond between mother and son through stories of his mother and the values of accountability and forgiveness in their relationship. He relayed a story about getting called names after failing a school year and then coming home each day to his mom’s encouragement. She told him he would do better this time and made ice cream. He expected her to be hard on him, so her surprise encouragement helped him overcome name-calling and self-bullying. Afterward, Jack Dobbins, Walker Cooney, Barrett Stepp, Evan Archer, and Andrew Lutjens took turns on stage. They addressed their moms individually, highlighting their essential role in helping them achieve their goals. The Parent Teacher Cooperative plans to hold this event in future years and create a tradition to honor the excellent mothers and sons they’ve raised into high school students. Despite this being our first and last experience, my mom and I enjoyed our time.
