The Cartersville High School Robotics Team had a successful week, making it to the semi-finals at their latest competition. I had the chance to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes from one of the team captains, Evan Eastin. Evan first got into robotics because his older brother was involved, but he chose to stick with it for the problem-solving and hands-on challenge of building robots. During practices, the team designs and builds robots before programming them. They split into smaller sub-teams, with certain members building, designing, or coding. During their competitions, they play multiple rounds where they can earn points for different aspects of the robot’s abilities. These challenges allow Evan and his teammates to analyze problems and think critically to solve them when redesigning their robots for the next competition. The Robotics Team offers an excellent opportunity for its members to learn various applicable life skills involving problem-solving and teamwork.
