Art Club is one of the many clubs that Cartersville High School has to offer, the club is run and taught by Alichia Murray, better known as Mrs. Murray. She’s been running the club for 12 years and I had an opportunity to interview her and ask some common questions about art club.
— ” How would you describe Art Club? ”
Mrs. Murray: “Art club this year is an open studio, so people just come in and give me their artsy ideas, and I get materials for them to bring it to life.”
— ” How do you join art club? ”
Mrs. Murray: “Joining art club is very easy. Applications are right outside my door during the second or third week of school in August. All you have to do is fill out the application, pay a small fee, and show up!”
— ” When does art club have their meetings? ”
Mrs. Murray: “We meet once a month to work on projects and discuss other people’s work to see what needs improvement and what was done well”
— ” What is art club currently working on?”
Mrs. Murray: “Right now we’re doing little ceramic creations, like making little ceramic monsters and painting them. We’re also starting Jelli printing; which is where you have the little print that you carve out, then you paint it, and press it unto this jelly slab to leave a pattern, then you press your paper on the slab to make a picture, I think the middle schools do something like that with Mrs. Vest?”
— ” What are special opportunities that your club offers? ”
Mrs. Murray: “Art club is very good on college applications, even better if you’re pursuing an art history degree, or if you’re going to an art school like Booth Art Academy.”
