Should We Ban Zoos?

There are many different opinions on zoos. Personally, I’m all for zoos. I know people don’t like zoos because they say that they abuse animals. I really don’t think that is true.

Some people think zoos are animal abuse, and the animals should “be let free into the wild,” and we should “ban the zoos!” But I feel like people aren’t looking at the bigger picture. They base their opinion on the pictures they see on Twitter, but they don’t see the help the animals are actually getting.

Many zoos are built to rescue endangered animals. Zoos should not be banned for the simple reason that most animals would be extinct by now. Some animals that would not be here if it wasn’t for zoos are the Chicken frog, Scimitar-horned oryx, European bison, Lesser White-fronted Goose, and Przewalskis wild horse. There are many other animals, too, that would’ve not survived in the wild. The zoo saves animals.   If you were an animal and sick, would you rather be taken care of by top vets or lie on the hot grass and be hunted by predators? Zoos keep sick animals safe and save them from dying out in the wild.

Zoos are also so, so good for animals because they research them. They build up their knowledge of the species and understand their needs. With their research, zoos spread knowledge to children and adults. Zoos are a great place to learn new things. They are very educational and a fun way to learn. If you go to a zoo, you can discover hundreds of facts.

More than 230 zoos in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums provide animals with safe habitats and medical care. If we ban zoos, so many animals will be put in danger.
