“New year, new me,” the masses say after the year that some felt would not end. They’re not wrong, 2016 had an extra leap second. As we look at 2016 in the rear view mirror, 2017 is a fresh start, hence new year’s resolutions. They’re a chance to reflect on the year and how you can make the upcoming one better. CHS students took advantage of the clean slate that the new year provides,  and without further ado, here are some of their resolutions.

Victoria Ajao, Senior

“I make a resolution every year because I like making goals, and since it’s my senior year I feel like I need more direction and making a resolution keeps me accountable.”
She says about her resolutions, “I spend time on this,” laughing as she describes her process. She writes down her resolutions for the year and often includes motivational quotes. One of her resolutions for 2017 states, “Keep a positive mindset,’Everything Starts With The Mind’.”

Autumn Bruno, Sophmore

“I want to be able to lift 300 pounds by the end of this year.”

Jayla Cunningham, Freshman

“My resolution was to be nicer, but my Biology class made me break it.”

An anonymous Junior said, “My new year’s resolution is not to have any resolutions.” They said, “What’s the point of making them when I never keep mine?” This frustration at not completing a resolution is not uncommon, as Mrs. Gotkowski, CHS librarian says, “Make resolutions small so you feel like you’ve accomplished something,” she said, laughing.

On her own resolution, she says, “My top resolution is to be more patient.” She also resolved to be healthier in 2017. She isn’t alone, NBC reports that “Get Healthy” was searched 62,776,640 times before new year’s eve, 13.11% more than it was searched before 2016.  As for me, I procrastinated on making a resolution to not procrastinate this year, so I think it’s safe to say that 2017 is off to a great start.
