How does one get into the holiday spirit with Christmas right around the corner? Well the answer is the wonderful music that comes along with it. According to iTunes, these are the top 10 Christmas songs bought during 2016.

1.”All I Want For Christmas Is You” by: Mariah Carey-  Of course this song is on the top of the list, what do you expect? This classic Christmas jingle was released on iTunes on December 31, 1993 which is interesting** being after Christmas. Another interesting fact is that the song was actually written in 15 minutes by Mariah and her co-writer Walter Afanasieff. Mariah also had needed a little convincing about doing a Christmas albums because she thought that they were only for older artists.

2. “Mary did you Know” by: Pentatonix- Pentatonix is a popular a capella group that is well known for releasing a Christmas album every year. This song was released in 2014 on their “That’s Christmas to me” album and soon hit the top 40 after the music video was released. Pentatonix used just their voices put together to make this song a beautiful, intense Christmas hit.

3. “Christmas / Sarajevo 12/24 (Instrumental)” – Even if you have never heard anything about Christmas music before you must have heard this rendition medley of “Carol of the Bells” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”. It is sung by the Trans-siberian Orchestra and was released in 1995. This piece consists of a mixture of rock and classic orchestra which is why it is so popular. Who would have thought they would go so well together?

4. “Christmas Canon”- This Christmas song is also sung by the Trans-Siberian orchestra and was released on iTunes September 15,1998. This song is performed a little differently than most of the rock style songs and has more of a children’s choir feel about it. Instead of the electric guitars or any drums the song is accompanied by only a piano and string instruments.

5. “Last Christmas (Single Version)”- This song was released December 31, 1983 and was written and produced by George Michael. Ever since it has been released it has been covered by many popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Hilary Duff.

6. “Jingle Bell Rock” By: Bobby Helms- This is a classic Christmas jam you cannot go the month of December without hearing. This song was released in 1957 and has been an ongoing jam since. The song was written and composed by Joseph Carleton Beal and James Ross Boothe.

7. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree-  This song was released on iTunes on January 1, 1999 by Brenda Lee. The song itself was written by Johnny Marks and sold over 25 million copies by the song’s 50th anniversary. Brenda’s voice might sound mature on the song but she was actually thirteen when it was recorded.

8. “Little Drummer Boy” by: Pentatonix– Little drummer boy is a cover done by Pentatonix and was originally recorded by the Trapp Family Singers in 1951. The song was released on iTunes on May 5, 2014 along with their Christmas album “That’s Christmas to me”.

9.”Feliz Navidad” by: José Feliciano– this Spanish Christmas song was recorded in 1970. The total sales of the song was 808,000 as of November 25, 2016. According to ASCAP, the song is one of the top 25 most played Christmas songs around the world.

10. “It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas” by: Michael Bublé – This last song was written in 1951 by Meredith Willson. The song was originally titled “Its Beginning to Look Like Christmas”  leaving out “a lot,” and has been covered by many artists such as Michael Bublé
