In honor of Election Day, we decided to compile an account of the most terrifying election yet. If you felt your skin crawl just now, you are not alone. Here are the moments from the election cycle that just CAN’T SEEM TO END.

2015

  • June

      • Donald Trump announces his candidacy, making controversial comments about Mexican immigrants when he said, “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, I assume some are good people…”
      • Many Americans have called Trump “racist” for these comments, claiming that he implies that law-abiding Mexican immigrants are an exception to the otherwise criminal population.

      • FBI Director James Comey recommends non-prosecution for the Hillary Clinton email case, saying, “…no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.” It’s worth noting that this is highly unusual: normally these recommendations aren’t announced to the public.
      • Many Americans interpreted this event as an indication that the elite and the average Joe live with a different set of laws.
    • 18th

      • Republican National Convention begins
    • 21st

      • Republican National Convention ends
      • Ted Cruz gives speech in which he doesn’t endorse Trump, is booed. 
    • 22nd

      • WikiLeaks releases emails sent and received from the DNC
    • 24th

      • DNC head Debbie Wasserman Shultz announces that she will be stepping down at the end of the Convention after being booed off stage at a smaller event
    • 25th

      • Democratic National Convention begins
      • Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary Clinton, dropping out of the race
    • 26th

      • Hillary Clinton officially secures the Democratic nomination, ending the primary
    • 28th

      • Democratic National Convention ends

    • 23rd

      • Ted Cruz endorses Donald Trump, and is subsequently mocked on Twitter.
    • 26th

      • First Presidential Debate: Hillary Clinton vs Donald Trump
      • Gallup and most other sources poll that Hillary won at 61%, with Trump at 27%
  • October 2016

    • 4th

      • Vice Presidential Debate
      • A CNN poll showed that Pence won at 48%, with Kaine at 42%
    • 7th

      • Access Hollywood tapes leaked show Donald Trump making lewd comments about women. Most notably, however, he essentially admits to sexual assault.
    • 9th

      • Second Presidential Debate: Clinton vs Trump
      • Gallup polls declare Clinton the winner at 53%, with Trump at 35%
    • 15th

      • WikiLeaks releases transcripts of Hillary Clinton’s damaging speeches to Goldman Sachs
      • Clinton claims these leaks are a result of Russian hackers trying to sabotage the election
    • 19th

      • Third Presidential Debate: Clinton vs Trump
      • Gallup polls conclude Clinton won the election at 60%, with Trump at 31%
    • 28th

      • FBI Director Comey “reopens” the investigation on Hillary Clinton’s emails (The investigation was never really closed in the first place)
  • November
