Well the new Star Wars is upon us, and I was fortunate enough to get a ticket for the opening night. This movie has been hyped up and looked forward to since the day it was announced. All of us Star Wars lovers sat on the edges of our seats awaiting the next little tidbit of information about the movie or the characters. It has been a long wait since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith came to theaters in May of 2005, and now that wait is over. Here’s my take on it, without giving any spoilers.

I thought this movie overall was good, just not as a Star Wars movie. The characters were excellent as expected, they put the new people in place like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. The humor was good at times but other times it was really cheesy, or it seemed poorly placed or really forced, which did make it funnier than it should have been. Some things lacked continuity with the old movies, which gave me a sense of detachment from the traditional Star Wars atmosphere. The special effects and scenes were amazing, however it seemed to focus too much on the visuals, which were just too over the top for a Star Wars movie. The movie lacked depth in the story, to me the most important part of a Star Wars film. The story should be played out in such a way that it seems like an epic fantasy, which was executed perfectly in the original series and still came across well in the prequels. However, this movie seemed to fall short, hopefully it was just setting up for an outstanding second and third part, which I could see happening based on the end of The Force Awakens.

I can’t say much else without giving away parts of the story, which I am fairly certain is punishable by death. Overall I did like this movie as a normal movie, as a Star Wars movie I thought it fell short, but I certainly have hope for the next two.

RATING:

Movie: 9/10

Star Wars Movie: 4/10

Overall Experience: 10/10
